As a mom with donor conceived children I have been doing what I can to put the word out there that I am open to finding half-siblings for my children. I post on my blog and elsewhere the Sperm Donors ID that we used and up until recently I had found one half-sibling on the DSR and another mom contacted me through my blog that she also had a child using Sperm donor BGM 9581 from Xytex. I was thrilled about this news and excited that in the future my children would be able to know their half siblings if they choose to. But today that number changed. I have been a part of a Facebook group ” Xytex Offspring and Donors ” and a discussion started up about how many children people were finding out their donors had produced. Of course I had heard about the numbers being high, in fact I saw one story on TV were a man had upwards of 150, but I suppose my head was in the clouds thinking that my donor might only have about 10 offspring. I did not realize how easy it was to call up them sperm bank and give them your donor number and find out. In a phone call that lasted less then 60 seconds with a very pleasant women from Xytex this morning I found out that my donor had 23 “reported” births worldwide. I think I was a little bit in shock, because I have heard the stats from them the DSR are that only about 20% – 40% of people report their births. So my head is certainly spinning from this new bit of information. Immediately my mind goes to who are they/where are they. I now that of those 23 I account for 3 of the reported births, and I don’t know if the other moms that I have been in touch with have reported their births. Geez, how many are unreported?????
So my day goes on as planned with me being just a little less focused on the daily activities as I will admit that my thoughts this morning are being completely consumed by the number #23 ….. and counting!
Hi,
Not sure when you contacted Xytex but we are either in the 23 or ‘and counting’.
I just added to the DSR this week. Birth year 2009.
Thank you for sharing your story!
Great to make contact with you. I sent you a message on the DSR 🙂
